Dementia Trials Ireland
Dementia Trials Ireland, a HRB funded Clinical Trial Network (CTN), aims to improve the lives of individuals at risk of, or living with, dementia. The objective of DTI is to significantly develop and expand the current small national dementia clinical trials portfolio to include studies of diverse types. Trials include proof of concept to implementation, non-pharmacological to pharmacological approaches, suitable for all stages and all sub-types of dementia. The goal is to enable every person at risk of, or living with dementia in Ireland, the opportunity to access clinical trials. This will entail upskilling the workforce to conduct trials, attracting more international trials, and competing for funding for investigator-led trials within and beyond Ireland. Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) forms a cornerstone of the work in DTI – it involves the inclusion of people with lived experience and their caregivers in the day-to-day development of the Network. The PPI panel works to help to raise public and professional awareness of dementia and dementia trials throughout Ireland. See dementiatrials.ie for further information.
Dementia Research Network Ireland
Dementia Research Network Ireland (DRNI) is an all-Ireland network with over 160 members, spanning all disciplines of dementia research. Established in 2012, DRNI supports and promotes dementia research by linking researchers from the clinical, basic, and social sciences to facilitate collaboration and networking, and to be a conduit for dementia research. DRNI works to define and address research priorities, challenges, and opportunities in the dementia research community in both jurisdictions. Working together with stakeholders, DRNI occupies a position of strategic relevance as a facilitator and coordinator to address issues within the dementia research landscape, and work together with patient and public involvement (PPI) representatives to, among other things, lead knowledge translation initiatives for the public. Among its many functions, DRNI enables its membership to effectively disseminate research, promotes funding calls, supports grant applications and provides early career researchers a vital platform to build knowledge and skills. See dementianetwork.ie for more information.
