About this Collection
Research into ageing populations is becoming more prevalent and important due to the far-reaching implications that a rising life expectancy is having on our society. Health and social care issues, increasing financial demands on the health service, and quality of life for the older population are growing concerns for public policy in Ireland and internationally.
Irish research is leading the way in a variety of ways, from the The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA) and IDS-TILDA studies, to the research carried about by members of the Dementia and Neurodegeneration Network Ireland (DNNI) as well as important policy developments, such as the 2015 Assisted Decision-Making (ADM) (Capacity) Act and the plans for new rights-based legislation in relation to home care services and supports.
This collection encourages research to be submitted on the many facets of an ageing population and welcomes a broad scope of outputs, from PPI, medical gerontology, neurodegenerative research, social gerontology, economics of ageing, health policy and the social sciences generally.
